Using willow branches, bark and other natural materials McQueen weaves basket-like structures, objects and creatures in an art form that bridges the gap between craft and sculpture. Creating both familiar objects and whimsical imaginary creatures, McQueen’s work contains a lighthearted humor, as well as thoughtful questions about interior meaning. St Louis artist and printmaker Peter Marcus, at work in his studio on a large-scale portrait. Marcus likes to combine opposites: grand scale with intimacy or architectural geometry with organic elements. He often combines digital photography with intaglio printing and challenges the distinction between printmaking and painting. And he always strives to take risks, experiment in ways that encourage growth and change. As he works, Marcus typically listens to classical music; Mozart is a favorite.
